Riviera Raceway is conveniently located two miles south of Norfolk, just east of the airport at 204 Sherwood Road. The 3/10 mile, semi-banked clay oval track lends itself to fast, competitive dirt track racing.

Racing action takes place on Saturday nights from late April till Labor Day. The track is going into its 48th season.

Besides being the home of many top caliber drivers, the track is known for its family atmosphere. Riviera began operations in May 1965 under the leadership of the the late Robert Haase. Riviera has been continuously owned

and operated by the Haase family the entire time; with most of the track operation currently falling onto a second generation. It is not unusual today to see second or third generation drivers as well.

To list every driver involved over the years would be a book all its own.

In its first season the track fielded 17 cars total. The race night consisted of those 17 cars running heats, a trophy dash, a C feature, B feature and all cars running in the A feature. Currently most nights each class will top that count, and each will have their own heats and features.

The track originally had a shorter rounder configuration, which has been adjusted through time to accommodate larger, faster vehicles.

Riviera has gone through many changes through the decades. Through the 60's growing pains, the 70's bikini contests, the 80's Hare and Hounds, the 90's Nag Drags, the 2000's Combine Demolition Derbies and who knows what is to come this decade.

The cars have gone through transformations of their own, from the old style cars to today's powerful Late Models. Riviera currently runs Grand Nationals, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and 2 4 cylinder classes.
